The Northern Cape Environmental Heritage Trust (NCEHT) was established in April 2014 in response to the lack of funding for the conservation of environmental heritage resources in the Northern Cape Province, and virtually no projects integrating social needs with environmental heritage conservation. The aim of the Trust is to conserve heritage and environmental resources. The Northern Cape contains a number of fascinating cultural heritage sites which are at risk of destruction. The NCEHT aims to digitally document these sites to create a permanent record while boosting tourism and promoting education and research. The NCEHT also aims to preserve the environment through ecologically sustainable development initiatives that promote the responsible use of natural resources. Environmental problems are often inexorably linked to social issues. In order to achieve its aims the Trust integrates the social needs of communities when addressing environmental issues.
